The Struggle of 010911 -- Introduction

Since September 11, 2001 I, like many others, have worked to understand what led to this war, what the risks are, and how best to manage the present and future risks. A page written in Sept/Oct/Nov 2001 has been divided into 3 parts:

references: links to news articles and resource sites
essay and exposition: personal exposition and thoughts
archives: dated material that I still would like to keep track of.

In some cases I have stored annotated copies of selected references on this site; these local copies are indicated by the icon (Adobe Acrobat, pdf). These local copies are (usually) password protected so that I comply with the spirit of "personal use" of copyrighted materials; if you need to access a protected copy let me know.

The attackers^[17] hate many things, but one their great hatreds is secular humanism and liberalism. They would be infuriated that we fight them by first seeking to understand them.

History

April 2003: Added Preemptive War section.
June 2002: Published rewritten pages to public site.
April 2002: Began a rewrite, splitting into two pages.
Dec 21, 01: Rewrote some of the model section.
Nov 7, 2001: focused more on Fundamentalism as a contributor to the model rather than on unique aspects of Islam.
Nov 3, 2001: updates, increasing focus on the nuclear factor, more ideas for bioweapons defense.
Oct 12, 2001: added diagram
Oct 7, 2001: extensive reorganization, collaboration section
Sept 26, 2001: initial revisions.
Sept 22, 2001: initial version.
